Data in this exercise comes from an oximeter device, which measures oxygen saturation. The oximeter sends a FHIR Observation resource, which represents O2 saturation over a period of time, into InterSystems IRIS for Health. In newborn babies, low oxygen saturation can be a sign of a congenital heart defect. This exercise shows InterSystems IRIS for Health acting as a decision support tool. If infant oxygen levels fall below a certain level, InterSystems IRIS for Health will send an HL7 message to an application to schedule a screening for congenital heart defects.
